Eating Out with a Food Allergy or Special Diet
Eating out can be a pain when you have a food allergy or intolerance or following a diet for medical reasons. Even finding restaurants and eateries offering the more mainstream lifestyle dining preferences such as organic, vegetarian or vegan can be a challenge.
Special Diets Directory is talking to restaurants and food outlets accross the board to find those who can genuinely and safely cater for particular allergies, needs or preferences - and do it with a smile!
Special Diets Directory is also helping restaurants network with suppliers of fine allergen free ingredients, food producers and allergy aware chefs and trainng companies. This is in addition to campaigning for awareness to let the restaurants and food industry as a whole know how they could profit and capture the huge slice of the population's custom they are missing out on. They can only benefit from knowing how they will win that business and loyalty by simply changing a few basic ingredients and approaches in their standard recipes! Creating a hassle free 'one fits all menu' is the key. Wheat free, gluten free and dairy free ingredents are particularly easy to source and often superior alternatives to include in their main menus. Many small producers hold the key to making their lives and ours easier in supplying gorgeous artisan, hand made allergy free meals pre-frozen as a high quality standby.
Our aim is to make it easy and worry/hassle free for restaurants to provide for all types of special dietary needs and create a 'Win Win' situation.
For all restaurants, hotels, cafes, bistros, pubs, sandwich bars, canteens etc - welcoming anyone with a food allergy is 'the future' and more and more chefs, cooks and caterers are seeing the light. The tide is changing with infinite high quality dining opportunities to look forward to!
Nearly all of the 1000's of people we spoke to at the Allergy Show said that they never or hardly ever eat out......and this is just the tip of the iceburg.
Our bodies are rebelling against the overload of wheat, dairy and salt; the western diet is leading to food allergies and intolerances to the point of their becoming the norm if something doesn't change - and soon. The head count is exploding. With an estimated 1 in 3 to 1 in 10 people on a special diet of some kind (so many undiagnosed that accurate statistics aren't yet available) eating out safely should be standard.....
