We all eat too much salt.  It is not intentional, it is just hard to avoid! Keeping track of it is a bind as it is pumped into the staple ingredients we think of as pure. Our taste buds become accustomed to the taste - we crave salt

The new food labelling system is a start but really only products marked 'No Added Salt'  can be relied on; the crunch is that food marked with a green traffic light often still has way too high a salt content when combined with the levels of sodium we ingest in everything else we eat ithrough the day.  Policing the content per centages claimed on every food product, is impossible

The shame of it is that for many it is more than just unhealthy   - it is hazardous to their health.  For anyone with blood pressure, cardiovascular or any kind of kidney problems it is a high maintenance minefield trying to keep sodium intake down to within safe parameters

Our children are being saturated with salt with huge amounts hidden away in unlikely culprits like breakfast cereals, 'healthy' bars and even frozen fry chips. As for cakes, biscuits .... Even many ready meals and food specifically designed for kids can be oversalted...

Even if we cook everything from fresh we still get caught out with the levels manufacturers sneak into the base ingredients

Natually occuring salts alone are fine and our bodies do actually need some salt/soduim to function properly, so this section is dedicated to food with only naturally occuring sodium, low salt and no added salt.
