Gluten Free retail value estimated worth c£48 million per annum in 2005 (Mintel report January 2006) which doubled 2002 figures
Description
Although current figures of value of the free from market are awaited, the January 2006 Mintel report  estimated the 2005 gluten-free retail  worth to be around £48 million per annum in 2005  which  doubled the  2002 figues.

Although the Dairy Free market used to account for the largest  portion of the 'Free From' category, indications are that 'gluten free' is now  the highest single value sector. 

With an additional 10,000 + people being diagnosed with Coeliac Disease per annum it is evident that the gluten free market is growing rapidly.

However consumer surveys show that this demand is not being met and that lack of awareness and knowledge accross catering and retail is leaving the consumer with limited availability and choice and inferior quality of food and ingredients.
